Matt Kantner, PE, SE, an Associate Engineer with Equilibrium Consulting, will be presenting on the topic of mass timber construction with a focus on code implications. In this one hour session, Matt will speak to the evolution of the IBC as it pertains to mass timber; both where it has come from and where it is heading. We’ll look at trends in mass timber construction in terms of Building Types, sizes, programs, and framing schemes. Through the lens of completed and ongoing projects, we’ll examine innovations in mass timber construction, a construction method which is growing at an exponential rate in Georgia, the United States, and abroad.

About Matt Katner, PE, SE: 

Matt Kantner, PE, SE is an Associate Engineer with over ten years of structural engineering experience. He leads project teams on significant building projects, with a focus on mass timber buildings in the US. Matt began his career as a structural engineer at Uzun + Case, LLC in Atlanta, Georgia. During his time there he quickly began managing the structural design of a wide variety of projects.

Matt joined Equilibrium by way of Katerra in order to focus his career on the structural design of mass timber buildings, something that he came to appreciate while leading the structural design of the Kendeda Building at Georgia Tech. Currently Matt is working on mass timber projects up to 300,000+ SF and 12 stories in California, Texas, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio. Matt is a member of the SEI’s Sustainability Committee and SE 2050 Committee and has led Equilibrium to be one of the first firms to sign on to the SE 2050 Commitment.
