Blending historic character with modern design, it fosters an inspiring environment for high-level research, outdoor collaboration, and innovation. The expansive Level 05 Sky Deck and welcoming Arrival Plaza seamlessly connect past and future, creating a dynamic space for discovery. Prioritizing sustainability and community engagement, Science Square is more than a research facility—it’s a catalyst for biotech progress, bringing together scientists, entrepreneurs, and visionaries to shape the future of life sciences.

Design Challenge

The client’s goal was to create a pioneering Life Science District in the Southeast, providing innovative lab research and design to accelerate life-changing discoveries. To achieve this, the client aimed to build a life science ecosystem that connects top talent and companies with the resources needed for breakthrough scientific advancements.

This project balances the advanced technical needs of research with a strong focus on the human experience. Designed as a purpose-built life science district, the building features essential infrastructure for high-performance labs, including 100% outside air for all spaces, up to 12 air changes per hour in lab areas, accessible stand-by power, and support chases running the building’s height to safely exhaust fumes required for 24/7 lab operations.

Equally important, the project prioritizes employee well-being, aligning with both LEED and WELL standards to create an environment that supports both the body and mind.
