Young Architect Representative (Y.A.R.)
A national leadership position within the AIA, representing young architects across the state of Georgia. Additionally, the position offers the Young Architect Representative (YAR) the opportunity to develop lifelong, powerful relationships with their peers from across the country, plus multiple U.S. territories. Strategic Council
AIA National Strategic Council Representative
The AIA Strategic Council advances the architecture profession by informing the Board and other AIA bodies about important professional issues, opportunities, and threats. Although it is not an AIA governing body, the Council’s work is vital to AIA’s ability to serve the profession. Section 6.5 of the AIA Bylaws defines in detail the Council’s mission, responsibilities, and composition. The Council approaches its tasks with an emphasis on an outward and forward-focused vision. In this spirit, the Council focuses on long-term goals and outcomes of AIA’s work rather than the administrative or programmatic efforts that achieve those goals.
The Council meets to consider topics based on AIA’s strategic objectives. From that work, it develops recommendations for the Board’s consideration. To learn more about the work of the AIA Strategic Council, visit: https://www.aia.org/pages/6339552-strategic-council
In 2021, AIA members voted to eliminate its regional level of governance. As a result, each state is now allotted one Strategic Council Representative, who serves a three year term. Georgia will hold an election to find its next Representative in the fall of 2025, to fill the 2026-28 SC term. Exemplary Strategic Council Representatives should be:
- A true representative of Georgia’s members, reflective of the diversity of our communities, chapters, sections, firms and professionals.
- A reflective thinker who offers expertise, experience, insight, and/or unique perspectives.
- An exemplary communicator, a listener and advocate who will capably serve as an active conduit for information and ideas to and from our members.
- A leader able to inspire, collaborate, and work with others, and who is familiar with multiple sectors of the architecture business.

The AIA Georgia Board of Directors maintains a Treasurer position on its Board of Directors, which has a term of two (2) years. An individual AIA member may serve an unlimited number of terms as the Treasurer of AIA Georgia. The Treasurer works cooperatively with seven Board Directors, and the rest of the Executive Committee: Secretary, President, President-Elect, and Past President. AIA Georgia conducts elections for the Treasurer Director position in the Fall of each odd-numbered year, and the term begins on January 1 of the following year.
