We are proud to share that John Starr, FAIA, of Atlanta has been elevated to the prestigious College of Fellows by the American Institute of Architects. This distinguished honor recognizes architects who have made significant contributions to the profession and to society at a national level.

The 2026 Jury of Fellows, led by Sanford Garner, FAIA, selected 78 architects nationwide for elevation. Fellowship is one of the highest honors the AIA can bestow, recognizing just 3 percent of AIA members who demonstrate excellence, leadership, and lasting impact within the profession and beyond.

John’s elevation reflects more than four decades of visionary leadership. As Design Principal and Director of Lord Aeck Sargent’s Education and Arts and Culture practice areas, he has spent over 40 years shaping learning environments, museums, and cultural spaces that embrace interactivity and evolving technologies. His work reflects a deep commitment to architecture that not only serves communities but elevates how people experience and engage with the built environment.

The College of Fellows honors architects who have:

  • Promoted the aesthetic, scientific, and practical efficiency of the profession

  • Advanced the science and art of planning and building

  • Coordinated the building industry and the profession of architecture

  • Improved living standards through thoughtful environments

  • Strengthened architectural education and professional growth

John’s career exemplifies these ideals. Through leadership, mentorship, and innovative design, he has continually advanced architecture’s service to society.

He will be formally honored at the AIA Georgia Awards this April and again at the AIA Conference on Architecture & Design 2026 in San Diego.

Please join us in celebrating John Starr, FAIA, on this extraordinary achievement. His elevation to Fellowship is not only a personal milestone but a moment of pride for Georgia’s architectural community.
